De forma variable los animales se vinculan al hombre en lo personal, social, científico y económico gestando una relación con indudables beneficios y no pocas dificultades. Para resolver estos conflictos es necesario recurrir a información confiable, pero la falta de una fuente de datos veraz dificulta muchas veces, la toma de decisiones a las personas en lo personal o en su rol de empresarios y políticos. Cuando estas incógnitas tienen relación con los múltiples aspectos que rodean al uso de las distintas especies animales para compañía, esparcimiento, investigación o producción agropecuaria, surgen dudas, preocupaciones, preguntas, conflictos y demandas que son difíciles de resolver. Si bien el tema de los animales en la sociedad surge ya en la prehistoria, podemos hoy -gracias a las técnicas de información modernas- intentar resolver nuestras incógnitas, pero no podemos –o nos es muy difícil- estar seguros de la pertinencia de los datos obtenidos.
Conscientes de esta falencia, se ha decidido crear en ADE un espacio que sirva de referencia y consulta con acciones de difusión y educación sobre el vínculo de la sociedad con los animales y sobre el sentido y los alcances de su bienestar. Esto nos permitirá generar un ámbito de consulta inexistente hoy en el país y deseamos así ofrecer a la región una herramienta necesaria y novedosa. Estamos convencidos de la riqueza potencial de esto para la comunidad y las empresas vinculadas a un recurso sensible, vivo y muchas veces usado inadecuadamente, y así buscamos ofrecer una opción educativa más en un todo pertinente a nuestro objetivo institucional de promover valores rectores de actividades empresarias con ética, responsabilidad y excelencia.
Siendo el Bienestar Animal un aspecto técnico según las definiciones aceptadas, y generalmente confundido con los derechos o la protección de los animales, la clarificación de estos aspectos y la compresión de los alcances de estas posturas será uno de los objetivos básicos del Centro. No es lo mismo enfocar este tema aplicado a cada una de las circunstancias de uso animal - urbano, investigación, consumo o producción pecuaria, silvestres o salvajes-, ni la forma de interactuar con ellos -Comités de Cuidado y Uso, Buenas Prácticas, Legislación sobre tenencia, etc.-, por lo tanto no serán compatibles ni los contenidos ni los objetivos de los módulos a ofrecer.
Se ofrecerán cursos específicos según demanda institucional o sectorial, además de la oferta genérica de los mismos. En una primera etapa se realizarán sobre Buenas Prácticas Pecuarias, dirigidos a integrantes de la cadena agroindustrial. Dicha actividad presencial se complementará con el acceso a información actualizada “online” replicando lo recibido de fuentes confiables. Paralelamente se desarrollará un ámbito de consulta directa de bibliografía sobre esta apasionante y controversial temática que genera acciones académicas, sociales, políticas y éticas.
Esta actividad inicial se ofrece por el fuerte vínculo DEMOSTRADO entre la disminución de la rentabilidad de las empresas de producción pecuaria y la ausencia de bienestar de los animales criados en ellas, que superaría el 50% de una Cuota Hilton de 28.000.000 de Kgrs. de carne.
La responsabilidad en el diseño de este Centro, su conducción y capacitación ha sido confiada al Médico Veterinario y Diplomado en Salud Pública Leopoldo Estol, consultor internacional y pionero en este tema en Argentina, creador -1991- de dicho Programa en el SENASA -Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Animal- y primer Profesor -1991/05- de esta especialidad en el país en la Carrera de Veterinaria que organizó y dirigió en la Universidad del Salvador.
Animal Welfare Science Center at the Association of Business Executives (ADE).
By varying ways animals are linked to man in the personal, social, scientific and economic life as a relationship with undoubted benefits and not a few difficulties. To resolve these conflicts is necessary to use reliable information, but the lack of accurate data sources is often difficult to access to people for take decisions personally or in their role as businessmen and politicians. When these questions are related to the many issues surrounding the use of different animal species for companionship, recreation, research and agricultural productionthe questions, concerns, conflicts and demands are difficult to resolve. While the theme of animals in society emerged in prehistoric times, we can today, thanks to modern information technology, try to solve our unknowns, but we cannot, or is very difficult, to be sure of the relevance of data obtained.
Aware of this shortcoming, the ADE has decided to create a space that serves as reference and consultation with education and outreach activities about the link between society and animals and the meaning and scope of animal welfare as a science. This allows us to generate a query scope absent today in the country and we thus offer to the region a new and necessary tool. We believe this potential wealth for the community and businesses linked to the use of a sensitive and lively resource –the animal- often misused.We offer an educational choice in a completely relevant to our corporate objective of promoting entrepreneurial activities guiding values of ethics, accountability and excellence.
Animal Welfare being a technical issue as the accepted definitions, and often confused with the animal rights or animal protection. The clarification of these issues and understanding of the scope of these positions will be one of the basic objectives of the Centre. Is not the same approach this theme applied to each animal usage circumstances - urban research, consumption or livestock, or wild animals, or how to interact with them -Care and Use Committee, Best Practices, Legislation Tenure, etc .- therefore will not support nor the contents and aims of the modules to offer in an equal offer and we separate for each topic.
Specific courses will be offered according to demand institutional and sector, as well as generic supply for them. In the first stage will be held on Good Animal Practices, aimed at members of the agribusiness chain. Such activities will be complemented by access to current information "online" replicating received from reliable sources. In parallel we will develop a scope of direct consultation of literature on this fascinating and controversial subject that generates actions in the academic, social, political and ethical areas.
This initial activity is offered by the strong proven link between the decline in profitability of livestock production and the absence of welfare for animals kept in them, which would exceed 50% of a share of Hilton of 28,000,000 Kg. meat yearly.
The responsibility for the design of this Center, and training has been entrusted to the Veterinarian with Diploma in Medical Public Health Leopoldo Estol, international consultant and pioneer in this area in Argentina, creator -1991 - of the program in the SENASA, National Service Animal Health, and Professor -1991/05- first of its kind in the country in the Veterinary School developed, organized and conducted by him at the University of Salvador.
